For those who prefer bigger iPads, there is reason to rejoice as the 11-inch iPad Pro is likely to get a mini LED display next year. Apple plans to add a Mini LED display to the 11-inch iPad Professional in 2022, following the introduction of the technology on this 12-month 12.9-inch model, based on analysis by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The Verge reported.
Apple this year launched new variants of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, each of which includes M1 processors but only the larger model, including a mini LED display. Mini LED is a new display technology that involves using thousands of tiny LEDs to create a targeted local dimming zone, allowing for high differential and HDR efficiency. The 12.9-inch iPad Professional has 2,500 native dimming zones.
Kuo also said that Apple plans to bring the Mini LED screen to the MacBook line. The 14-inch and 16-inch Mini LED models are reportedly going into manufacturing this quarter, while Kuo believes that a redesigned MacBook Air with Show technology will be launched in 2022. Mini LED technology was said to be the reason. As for supply constraints for the new iPad Pro ahead of its launch earlier this year.
With the machine still easily out of stock, Apple estimates transportation opportunities of two to three weeks for several models on its US website.
Kuo also says that Apple plans to bring the Mini LED screen to the MacBook line. The 14-inch and 16-inch Mini LED models are reportedly going into production this quarter, while Kuo believes a redesigned MacBook Air with the display technology will be released in 2022. He has made this claim before, also saying that the cheaper iPad models will be switching to OLED panels.
Mini LED technology was cited as the reason for the supply shortage for the new iPad Pro before its launch earlier this year. The device is still easily out of stock, with Apple estimating shipping times for most models between two and three weeks on its US website.
In an investor note obtained by MacRumors today, Kuo said that with a new MacBook Air equipped with a mini-LED display next year, Apple also plans to bring display technology to both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro Is. Apple introduced a Mini-LED display to the high-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro last April, but the updated 11-inch iPad Pro didn’t receive the new display technology.
